Chapter Seventeen
âWhere were you?â Liam asked when I joined him and the rest of the guys in Tristanâs backyard.
Making out with your sister.
âReading bedtime stories to River.â
He frowned. âItâs kind of late, isnât it? He usually goes to bed earlier.â
âOh, well, Wren let him stay up a little later. And he was bouncing off the walls, so it took a bit to calm him down.â
He chuckled. âIf I could bottle his energy and sell it, Iâd be rich.â
âItâs not like youâre hurting for money.â
Neither was I, but I wasnât raking in the cash like Liam either. Plus, Iâd noticed a number of new purchases lately. In the past year alone, heâd traded in his old truck for a brand-new model. Heâd been doing all the projects on his house, so⦠yeah.
âTrue.â He grinned, popping a chip into his mouth. âBut you know what I mean.â
We sat around talking for a while. Tristan was working on a new platform, and it was starting to drive him a bit crazy. Or maybe it was the kids. I didnât know how he balanced everything he did. Asher had just returned from a pastry conference. And Liam had another inspection coming up next week, though heâd started doing more of the work for them remotely.
It was nice. Easy. I could almost forget about the fact that Iâd kissed Wren and was lying to my best friend. At least until Liam nudged my foot and asked, âHowâs Tits McGee?â
I scrubbed a hand over my face. âWould you please stop calling her that? Itâs so disrespectful.â
âWhat else am I supposed to call her? You wonât tell me her name.â
âWhose name?â Tristan asked at the same time Asher asked, âWho the hell is Tits McGee?â
âThis chick Bennettâs been texting with. He met her on LoveBirds.â
âOh yeah,â Tristan said. âHow are you liking the app so far? Iâd love to hear your feedback.â
âAre you telling us The Vine got it wrong?â Asher taunted.
âOf course, it was wrong,â Liam said with a roll of his eyes. âBennett wouldnât dare touch my sister.â
We all laughed, but mine had a nervous edge to it. Wren. The sexting. The Vine post. My air supply felt as if it were being cut off, and I tugged at the neck of my shirt, hoping it would help me breathe easier.
âHow did you know about her?â Tristan asked Liam.
âI saw her tits on his phone one day. And get thisââ Liam leaned in, resting his elbows on his thighs ââhe was sexting her at work.â
âBennett,â Asher gasped with mock outrage. âYou naughty devil.â
âHa-ha.â I rolled my eyes and sipped my beer. I shouldâve known Liam would bring this up. Now I could understand why Wren hated when he butted into her love life. Though my reasons were different.
âTired of getting all your pussy at the clinic?â Asher teased with a âmeowâ and held his hands up to look like claws.
âGood one!â Liam raised his hand for a high five, and Asher slapped his palm.
I rolled my eyes.
